Before You Book: What to Ask Every UK Wedding Venue
Scroll through wedding TikTok or the UK wedding subreddits and a clear pattern emerges. Couples aren’t just admiring pretty venues – they’re asking hard, practical questions in the comments. We analysed hundreds of the most-liked comments and threads, and three themes came up again and again. If you’re planning a 2027 or 2028 wedding, here’s what to focus on – and exactly what to ask.
1. “Just tell me the price”
By far the most common reaction to any venue post is a simple one: how much? The biggest frustration couples voice is price opacity – websites with no figures, brochures locked behind a contact form, and the dreaded “enquire for pricing”. As one couple put it, “cagey about pricing usually means expensive.” Many say they’ll happily skip a venue that won’t share a starting price and book one that will.
You’re allowed to ask for a ballpark before you invest time in a viewing. A good venue will give you a starting-from price, a per-head cost, or clear packages. Transparency is a green flag.
2. What’s actually included (and what costs extra)
The most-liked question on one viral venue post was simply, “If that includes food, it’s a steal!” Catering, drinks, styling and setup make or break the value of a headline price. Couples also warn each other about hidden add-ons – one described being charged “£10 for a bench, £30 for a table” on top of an £11k venue fee, wishing they’d asked about extras from the start.
Before you fall for a number, get an itemised breakdown. Does it include the wedding breakfast, evening food, drinks, tables, chairs and décor? Is there a minimum spend or minimum guest count? (A minimum usually just means you pay the difference – it rarely rules you out.)
3. Value, not just cost
UK couples are cost-conscious and vocal about it. Comments constantly weigh a wedding against a house deposit, and celebrate couples who marry beautifully on a budget. But “cheap” isn’t the goal – value is. The consensus: prioritise the venue, the food and photography; save on flowers, décor, stationery and favours that “guests never notice.”
Ask how flexible the venue is: midweek or off-peak dates. Small levers make a big difference to value.
The questions to ask every venue
- What’s your starting price, and what’s the price for our guest number?
- What’s included – and what’s extra?
- Is there a minimum spend or guest count?
- Which dates are cheaper (midweek, off-season)?
- How quickly do you reply once we’ve booked?
Ask these early and you’ll waste fewer weekends on viewings – and find the venue that’s right for your day and your budget.
How we do things at Wonderland
We wrote this because it’s exactly how we’d want to be treated if we were the ones booking. Across all our venues – from Inkersall Grange Farm in Nottinghamshire to Chafford Park in Kent – you’ll find a dedicated pricing page for each one, so you can see what you’re working with before you ever pick up the phone.
You’ll also get a straight answer on the things couples tell us they hate guessing about: what your deposit is, when your balance is due, and exactly what’s included in your hire (the space, tables, benches, chairs and the time to decorate the day before). Catering and bar are built around the menu you actually want rather than a fixed package, so you’re never paying for things you didn’t choose – and our team will talk you through the numbers openly at your viewing.
And if you’re weighing up value, ask us about midweek and off-peak dates. We’re currently offering 30% off remaining hire dates at Inkersall Grange Farm and 20% off venue hire on remaining 2027 dates at Scrivelsby Walled Garden — the kind of small levers that make a real difference.
Got a date in mind? Explore our venues to find the one that fits. You’ll find hire pricing on the venue pages to get you started, and because catering and bar are built around the menu you choose, we’ll talk you through the full picture openly — no vague “enquire for details”.
